Intro

We had to create an original character that we could eventually use for a still frame narrative. I decided to create something that wouldn't be necessarily be predictable of me, so after messing around with different paint brush effects on Procreate, i eventually made an inverse dark pattern, that reminded me of a velvet gown a witch would wear. I wanted to change my drawing style, so i made the lines very free flowing and thin.

Design

I tried to make a character that followed a colour scheme of dark shades with turquoise and gold undertones, in a crushed velvet effect. I wanted her to still maintain the classic which look, so that it had a weird authentic feel to it.

Lyrics

We had to choose a piece of text or lyrics to inspire our narrative, and so i decided to choose a song by Frank Zappa called Cosmic Debris. I thought the lyrics were very engaging and interesting so i wanted to put some visuals to them.

First Sketches

This was my first story idea. I listened to the lyrics and imagined how my character would be used in them, so i came up with an idea. The witch was in pub stirring her coldrin, when she notices a frog drinking alone. she approaches him, trying to making him buy into the fact that shes magical, but he takes none of it. He gets agitated, grabs her crystal ball off her and does a spell to teach her a lesson. He makes them switch places, turning the witch into the frog and the frog into a human.

Storyboard

This is my first story board. I planned out how each scene would go in the 12 spaces.

Still frame

We had to choose a still frame a duplicate it 3 times in different styles. I chose this one because i thought it was engaging and would be fun to draw in different styles

First Drawing

This is my first outcome of the still frame, now using dry materials (coloured pencils and pen). This is my least favourite of the three but i liked experimenting with colours properly for the first time.

Digital

This is my second still frame, but now digitally rendered. I did this on Procreate and i used lots of different brushes, such as an airbrush to make a hazy magic effect. I toned down the coloured a lot and i think this version looks pretty nice and more put together.

Last Frame

My last frame had to be a stop motion shot. I decided to use plasticise because it captured the colour well and was easy to create a detailed image. I used toothpicks to give the sculptures structure and so they could stand upright. I used pieces of card to make the background.

Final Still

This is my final stop motion shot. This one is my favourite because it has a nice colour scheme and style to it. I also enjoyed making this one the most.
